When we decided to relocate to the Netherlands from Seattle, we knew that finding a rental would be challenging with five small pets in tow. What we didn’t anticipate, however, was being turned down by numerous makelaars who were outright unwilling to assist us. With a tight deadline looming due to several factors, we grew desperate and anxious. That’s when we stumbled upon Home for Expats. We met with Giselle, who was upfront about her concerns but genuinely committed to helping us as much as she could. We arrived in the Netherlands prepared for the possibility of securing short term housing while continuing our search. But Giselle worked her magic, and within less than a week of our arrival, we had found a long term home! Today, we’re happily settled with our boys and pets in a beautiful place we can truly call our own. We couldn’t have done it without Giselle and Home for Expats!

We are so grateful to have found Homes for Expats! Our makelaar, Giselle, was absolutely amazing. She was very transparent about the costs and how competitive the housing market is in the Netherlands. She found us an amazing place in about 5 weeks right next to a tram line. It’s even bigger than we expected! She was very communicative during the entire process and answered all of our random questions. We can’t recommend them enough to other expats looking for a new home. Thank you SO much!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Homes for Expats came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. We were extremely nervous to find a place to live in a new country without viewing it in person. From our initial meeting, Kady was extremely helpful. She explained how the Dutch real estate market works and how she would assist us. When it came time to start viewing properties, Kady sent incredibly detailed videos and messages about the properties we requested. When we asked different questions about the condition and/or her opinion, she was very honest and it felt like she was looking out for our best interest. We found a property we loved and she put in a lot of time and effort to help us secure it. After moving, she checked-in to make sure we were settled. She gave some advice on how to document the apartment condition so we will not lose our security deposit upon move out. If you are moving from abroad, we can't recommend Homes for Expats enough. They helped to make make a very big and stressful move more manageable.

Nicky was great! She found a home for me in my budget with all my boxes ticked (including a place for my dog) and made the process smooth. I couldn’t be happier.

We had such an amazing experience with Home for Expats from start to finish! From day one, we had a great feeling and immediately felt we could trust the team. The Home for Expats team were incredibly patient, always had our best interests at heart, and celebrated all the little moments with us. Even though we were eager to buy, they encouraged us to keep looking and not just settle for anything that was available. We are so happy we trusted their process, because it led us to our perfect home. Thank you, Cherene and Yvette, for all your guidance, patience and support. We couldn't have asked for a better experience buying our first home in the Netherlands! ❤️
When we just arrived in the Netherlands we were curious as to which service providers we will use in the pursuit of a house. We went to Expat fairs and came across Homes for Expats. This was 2 years ago (2024). We reached out to them and met Jessica. We had specifics in what we wanted in our search for a house. Jessica treated us with the utmost patience, even after changing the criteria for the area more than once. I would recommend Homes for Expats a thousand times over and over. Thank you, Jessica and team. Forever grateful! Hershelle & Ethel Swarts
Response from the owner:Dear Hershelle and Ethel, Thank you so much for this incredibly lovely review. I love that you first found Homes for Expats at an expat fair two years ago and that we have now been part of your journey to finding your home in the Netherlands. Sometimes what you think you are looking for changes once the search actually begins, and that is completely okay. The important thing is taking the time to find the home and area that are right for you. Thank you for recommending Homes for Expats a thousand times over. That really made me smile. We are so happy we could be part of your journey. Warmest regards, Cherene

Homes for Expats: Professional, Caring and Honest Having bought, sold and rented multiple houses in the US using realtors, it was unimaginable to think we could do the same in the Netherlands without a makelaar where we do not know local practices nor speak Dutch. After some careful consideration, we selected Homes For Expats not once but twice for securing our rentals. Our second effort was the most ambitious and challenging as we needed to find someone to take on our first lease as we moved into our second rental. Kady, Cherene and the rest of the team were determined and quickly successful in securing a new tenant acceptable to the owner of our now-former rental and moving us into a new home overlooking the Rhine and Rembrandtplaats. Without Kady’s persistence, professionalism, honesty and creativity on both ends of the transactions it would not have happened. Now we can relax on our terrace and watch the boats passing by, and all within a 10 minute walk of Leiden Centraal. We thank Kady and Cherene and highly recommend them whether you are renting or buying!
Response from the owner:Dear Kevin, Thank you so much for this amazing review. The fact that you chose Homes for Expats not once, but twice, means a great deal to us. Your second move certainly came with a few extra challenges, but I am so happy we managed to get everything to come together and get you into your new home. And what a home! Sitting on your terrace overlooking the Rhine and watching the boats go by sounds like a pretty fantastic ending to this particular housing journey. Thank you for choosing Homes for Expats again and for recommending us so highly. Enjoy that gorgeous view and your new home. Warmest regards, Cherene

Giselle from Homes for Expats was incredible—kind, responsive, and genuinely helpful throughout the entire process. She helped us find and secure a wonderful home before our move and continued to follow up afterward, making sure everything went smoothly and helping with questions and issues after check-in. After hearing about the difficulties so many other expats have faced finding housing, we feel especially grateful that we had the opportunity to work with Giselle. She made a potentially stressful international move so much easier, and we cannot recommend her highly enough!
Response from the owner:Dear Caitlin, Thank you so much for your lovely review. Finding and securing a home before you have even arrived in the Netherlands takes a lot of trust, and I am so pleased that we could make that part of your move so much easier. I also love that you mentioned the support after you moved in. For us, getting the keys is not where our relationship with our clients ends. We are still here when those questions pop up once you are actually living in your new home. Thank you for choosing Homes for Expats and for recommending us so highly. I hope you are settling in beautifully and really enjoying your new home in the Netherlands. Kindest regards, Cherene
Buying property in the Netherlands as a foreigner is hard. There is far more to think about - and act on - than you expect. What makes the difference is having someone who works proactively, keeps things moving, arranges the calls and the viewings, and helps you get through piles of documents. Nicky at Homes For Expats is exactly that kind of partner: reliable, proactive, energetic. She took a huge load off my shoulders, handling every detail of the process - minor and major - making sure things progressed as fast as possible, and keeping every aspect of a complex project under control. Huge help. I couldn't have done it without you, Nicky. Thank you!
Response from the owner:Dear Sergei, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Buying a home in the Netherlands comes with a mountain of paperwork and so many things that need to happen at exactly the right time. I am so pleased to hear that you felt we took some of that weight off your shoulders and kept everything moving for you. Congratulations on your new home and thank you for putting your trust in Homes for Expats. I hope you are incredibly happy there. Kindest regards, Cherene

We had a great experience with Kady at Homes for Expats! She made the process so easy and gave us the realistic expectations and reassurance we needed to get through the process and find our home. She even went above and beyond in coming after we arrived to help us figure out how to get our microwave/oven to work. Highly recommend!
Response from the owner:Dear Andie Mae, Thank you so much for your lovely review. I am so happy to hear that you felt reassured and knew what to realistically expect throughout your search. The rental market can be tough, but having the right expectations from the beginning makes such a difference. I did have a little laugh about the microwave oven. Sometimes our job extends into unexpected territory! I love that we could help you with the little things after you arrived as well. Thank you for choosing Homes for Expats and for recommending us. I hope you are very happy in your new home. Warm regards, Cherene

Jessica Venn

Purchasing makelaar Amsterdam, haarlem, north holland

A lawyer and lecturer from Johannesburg who relocated to the Netherlands in 2018 after first living for a short time in Dubai. Jessica studied B Com Law and LLB and after completing her articles in law, she started lecturing law to university students. In 2011 she opened up her own law firm specializing in Consumer Law and Contracts. After relocating and running her business remotely, Jessica closed her firm in 2020 and became a full-time mom to her two little boys.

Going from running my own law firm to being a full-time mom has been an interesting journey. Moving to a new country (twice) definitely kicked my networking skills into a higher gear! As an expat you have to learn how to make new friends, find your way around a new city, and integrate into a different culture and community. From the moment I landed in Dubai I felt the need to want to help others integrate more easily and make them feel supported even though their own family and friends were far away. Helping expats find a home is an integral part of the relocation process. Offering the best support while taking that step is exactly what I want to provide to my clients. Now here in the Netherlands at Homes for Expats I get to do exactly that! Relocating is not for the faint-hearted but it is worth it! Let me help you find your home!
